To mark National Apprenticeship Week, we wanted to kick start our spotlight series by shining some light on our Plumbing Apprentice Nathan.
To let you get to know Nathan and his apprenticeship experience, we asked him a few questions...
Tell us about you and your apprenticeship?
My name is Nathan, and I am Plumbing Apprentice at Harvey Group, working within both the M&E and FM departments of the company. Working as an apprentice has provided me with a great opportunity to learn how plumbing systems operate, under a great team of engineers and plumbers. I’ve worked on a variety of jobs; on large scale projects, on small work projects and both planned and reactive maintenance projects all of which have shown me different aspects of the trade.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
I decided to do an apprenticeship as I wanted good work experience while gaining qualifications. I chose to do my apprenticeship in plumbing because it is a great trade that gives me the chance to do hands-on work, all while the apprenticeship provides me with the platform to grow and progress in an industry that is always in demand.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
I have always enjoyed problem solving, and working in plumbing has provided plenty of chances for me to assess and work out how I will be able to solve a current or potential problem. I also enjoy working in a team with good people that make the job as enjoyable as it can be.
Do you have any advice for anyone out there considering an apprenticeship?
My advice for anyone considering doing an apprenticeship would be to go for it! It will provide great opportunities for you in the future while developing knowledge for a trade that will always be needed!
