Harvey Group Plc have added an automated external defibrillator (AED) to our first aid kit. Located at the reception area this device will be available to anyone who finds themselves in an unfortunate situation. Here at Harvey Group we count our people as our greatest asset.
With around 100 cases of cardiac arrest in the UK each week we see this as a necessary addition to ensure the health and wellbeing of our employees. If an AED is used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest survival rates jump from 5% to 75%. Having an AED in the workplace can improve survival by up to 60% if the casualty is treated immediately. We have located this device at reception to allow employees immediate access as and when they need it.
What is an AED?
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias and gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.
Automated external defibrillators are an important lifesaving technology and play a huge role in treating workplace cardiac arrest. Around 5% of sudden cardiac arrests occur at work, therefore it makes sense for companies to have an AED in the workplace.
