The New Block BA & BB is a nine-storey building split into a six-storey base and an upper level studio box / lantern. The lower floors of Block BA/BB will house the Centre for Sustainable Technologies. Mid-levels combine workshop, studio and office space for the Faculty of the Built Environment. The upper floors of Block BA/BB house the main sculpture and painting studios.

The project is designed to attain a rating of BREEAM Excellent. It features large Glazed walls to penetrate light deep into the plan of the building, avoiding glare and reducing lighting loads. Existing Lighting Services have been refurbished in Block BA with new LED lighting installed to compliment the existing installation. Local PIR's have been utilized in individual spaces and across the high performance glazed façade containing a photocell functionality for daylight dimming. This has reduced energy consumption.

Other Electrical Services includes General Power, Emergency Lighting, a Public Address System, Intruder/Security Alarm, Door Access Control System, CCTV, Data & Telecoms Installations, Audio Visual Installations, Fire Alarm and Facilities for the Disabled Alarms.

Natural Ventilation was installed throughout Block BB through means of Ventilation Louvres or openable windows with trickle vents. Natural ventilation via automatically controlled ventilation Louvres which follow the dictates of carbon dioxide and temperature detectors/sensors. Areas which have natural ventilation can be controlled either by a low level or a high level ventilation opening. A manually operated lower vent can be opened and closed by the occupants via a switch as required to give comfort cooling.

Other Mechanical Installations includes LTHW System, Chilled Water System, Cold & Hot Water Supply System, Soils & Wastes, Compressed Air, Laboratory Gases Installation, Natural Gas Supply, Fume Cupboard Extract System, Mechanical Ventilation System, Toilet Extract System, Dry riser installation and a complete Building Management System.
