St Mary’s College

St Mary's College in Derry provides a hi-tech campus at the heart of the digital corridor on the Northland Road. Pupils have access to state of the art facilities and vibrant learning spaces.

The contract consisted of the provision of the complete electrical & Mechanical installation for the new build replacement school and procurement was based upon a Public Private Partnership (PPP).

The schools facilities included large multi-purpose halls, sports hall and dance studios, music suite, theatres, independent learning centres, fully wireless ICT suites, Science Labs, technology suites, restaurants, libraries, boardrooms, office accommodations, sports pavilions, including pitches, running tracks and tennis courts.

As part of the design and build team we supplied, delivered to site, set to work, tested and commissioned all items necessary for the completion of the electrical & mechanical works including CCTV, fire and alarm systems, lighting, PA, LPHW systems, ventilation systems, plumbing systems, sanitary ware, wastes systems, air conditioning systems, passenger lifts, gas systems and automatic controls.

Harvey Group assisted in the design development process, and was able to influence the selections in order to embrace low carbon / best and maximise energy efficiency. This in turn led to the following measures to be implemented:

  • Ultra-Low Temperature heating
  • Toilet extract fans installed and controlled by means of presence detectors and run-on timers, to minimise energy consumption.
  • Enhanced Energy management systems
  • Metering and Controls
  • Heat recovery kitchen extract systems
  • Variable flow heating systems

A rainwater harvesting system was also incorporated as cost effective conservational measure to reduce water consumption within the building.

We assisted and advised on the life cycle cost analysis to ensure that all selected plant was the best value solution and highlighted any spend to save options to the client.

This building achieved BREEAM rating of “Very Good”.
